I'm not sure if the MVX uses the same motor as the RVX/SVX, we never got the MVX. If it does; there are indeed issues with motors from that year of manufacture.
It's not as simple as changing the orange gasket for a black one as some seem to suggest; there's extra flywheel mass, which reduces piston acceleration, and the significantly modified inlet system plus a host of minor tweaks all add up to the more reliable motor. You'd be wise to find a real expert and one completely independent of the shop where the bike is to advise you on what must be done to make the motor reliable. Wow, that dealer you contacted about the RXV is sugar coating things. I've got the SXV 550 and I change the oil about every 500 - 600 miles. Haven't needed a valve adjustment yet as the SECOND motor that's in it only has about 1200 miles. I'm planning on doing the valve check this next oil change. These bikes aren't the type to push the maint intervals on.
But they are some of the most incredible bikes you'll ever ride! That from someone that owned one at the time. It mimics what my mates experience was (he kept his until 2012), and he was fastidious with service/upkeep (only had the one bike, and a fully optioned workshop to house it in). 4000 miles is near enough 6,500 km's and on an engine of that configuration/cylinder and oil capacity. That's considerable.
Sure, a lot has to do with the conditions and how a bike is ridden (as per my 250cc mx bike analogy). But the intervalls mentioned in that e-mail (from the dealership) give the impression of a 'sales pitch' to sell the bike - not a true indication of what the real world situation would be. There were a number of bikes sold under this pretence in Sweden. And the 'what could possibly go wrong' result of these things being used as dogsbodies.
Came back and bit them in the arse. I went in to the Gold Coast Aprilia dealer at the time circa 2009/2010 to look at replacing my XChallenge with the RVX550 and the dealer simply said don't do it. Then he showed me out the back of the shop and workshop where numerous bikes were in pieces awaiting parts or repair. He was over the time and hassle of the repairs needed and having to deal with the importer and the mother company and was looking forward to dropping the brand. A beautiful looking and sounding bike and watching vision of Merriman in full flight on one was great to watch. A 990 is almost twice the displacement, and 100HP.
I reckon 70 would probably be enough for an enduro. Have briefly ridden a Husaberg FE650, with slightly lower but similar specs - shtload of HP - really did feel like the 690 in sport mode, squashed into a 450EXC frame Shame these high-spec Aprilias have been and gone - in today's market, they'd probably do a lot better - the successor (Dorsoduro?) looks very nice - a motard and a bigger bike (750 V-twin / 92HP), but again the beautiful Italian styling - not for sale in Aus. I remember back in 06-7 Josh McFarlane got a contract with Aprilla to race the 550 in the Aus super moto champs after winning a couple of years on Husky's. They flew to Sydney for the first test day and on lap 3 blew the engine. No spares so flew back home. Had that issue a few times.
Then was trail riding with another blole who loved the bike but was sick of the issues. I asked him how it was as a trail bike servicing etc.
His words, haven't had a chance to service it, this is its 3rd engine and this is my first ride on this one so who knows. He was sick of having a brand new bike but something going wrong everytime he went anywhere on it. Sounded awesome, looked awesome and went great, was a shame they had so many teething issues. I ended up getting a ride on Josh's practice bike, it was fully sick.

And a number of the Supermotard grenades that went off over the years were, according to the eyewitnesses; spectacularly catastrophic in tems of the mechanical carnage. that was inflicted.Although that's not too hard to imagine, when one considers how tightly wound the exotic and compact RXV/SXV 4.5/5.5 engine design is. (refer photo's in previous post). A recurring theme is the number of SXV's (motard version) 5.5's that seem to go terminal in a big way. Apparently 's UK/NZ RXV tuner guru mate has some history with the Aprilia's from DAKAR.? It'd be interesting to sit and hear what the factory team did to make Chaleco Lopez' bikes go the distance.? He and the RXV Rallye 450 put it right to the KTM's of Despres and Coma one year (2012?).
And except for the rear shock/chassis collapsing on the final stage, he would have put it on the podium.although it is fair to say that all the factory DAKAR team bikes (especially since the FIA 450cc max capacity regulations came into effect a few years back) get more or less a complete re-furbish and service every night (@ 10 hours or 800 km's max.). So the 'service intervall' compared to what the average punter is expected/capable of performing on a 'day to day' basis, is pretty moot.
